My grandpa, Rev. Gene Wilbanks is filling in at the local Baptist church till they get a new pastor.
Last night, he spoke on the Wisdom of God. A very helpful sermon to me right now.
So, I'm going to break my "norm" and post the notes from his sermon along with all the scripture references I got.
Enjoy!
Words that are BOLD are the ones I filled in.
"The Wisdom of God"
Romans 16:25~27
25Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
26But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
27To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.
26But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
27To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.
I. Remember That Our Experience Of The Wisdom Of God Comes In a FALLEN World.
A. (God) Does not SHIELD His children from sin or calamity:
~HIS ACTIONS ARE ALWAYS WISE AND RIGHT!~
Romans 11:33~36
33O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
34For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
35Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
36For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
34For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
35Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
36For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
~WISDOM SETS THE PICTURE IN FOCUS~
B. (God) does not PUNISH wicked people for their sin:
II. Remember The Wisdom Of God In Securing Your SALVATION!
I Corinthians 1:21~25, 31
21For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
31That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
A. Wise Living Starts With FEARING The Lord:
Proverbs 9:10
10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
B. Wise Living Grows By Receiving God's WORD:
Psalm 19:7
7The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
C. Wise Living Requires That We Ask For It SPECIFICALLY:
James 1:5~6
5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

Emily,
I loved reading over what Pa Pa preached on just last night. Our God is indeed the only wise, living, and true God. I am encouraged by the spiritual growth I see in your life; this blog is a testament to that work. I love you so much and look forward to how our Lord will use this site in the lives of others.
Much Love, Many Blessings, and Huge Hugs,
Anna :)
